Are AI & Machine Learning revolutionizing football?

I hear that clubs are using AI and ML to elevate their strategy- from recruitment to in-game tactics, the clubs using data best are dominating. As an Arsenal, I am wondering if we are doing enough. Finishing 2nd, for three years in a row tells me we might be missing smething. Could it be better better use of data? Thoughts?

Man City’s entire system is built on data.
You think Pep just wings it? City's recruitment under Txiki is heavily data-driven. Look at how we signed Rodri, Akanji, even Haaland — all based on predictive models of player movement, expected goals contribution (xGC), and injury risk scores.

📊 City’s injury days lost last season: just 124 (lowest in the Premier League). AI in load management is real.

Mate, don’t act like AI made Pep the GOAT. He had the money and brain.
That said, Serie A clubs are waking up.
AC Milan's AI-driven app "Milanello Lab" tracks heart rate variability, sleep, hydration.

We used it during the 2021–22 Scudetto run — injury rate dropped by 35%. Napoli copied it last season. Coincidence?

Enough with the “AI is magic” narrative.
Madrid won the Champions League with vibes, Modrić, and mentality.
Our “AI” was Courtois in beast mode and Benzema scoring screamers.

Real does use data in scouting — we picked up Camavinga, Tchouaméni, and Arda Güler partly because of ball recovery efficiency models. But let’s not act like it replaces instinct or football IQ.

Chelsea has the tech but no direction 🤡
We signed 22 players based on “data-driven scouting” and finished 12th. AI needs football people to interpret it, not just number-crunchers from Wall Street.

That said, I do rate what Brentford and Brighton are doing. Brentford scrapped their academy for a "B Team" system based entirely on data scouting, and look at them now.

United’s problem is we don’t even know what data to trust.
Spent £80m on Maguire with zero data justification — that was a gut call from a pub. 😂

Ten Hag brought in some structure, though. We’re using Zone 14 metrics, off-the-ball movement heatmaps, and even VR training simulations. Let’s talk when our xG isn’t a minus 3 against Luton 🙃

Wonder what Amorim is doing. But it’s still early days.

Say what you want, but the truth is clubs that blend AI with human intuition will win.

🧠 StatsBomb, Wyscout, Second Spectrum — these tools now track over 3,000 events per match.

- Liverpool’s throw-in coach Thomas Grønnemark was hired because AI found we were 18th in retention from throw-ins.

- FC Midtjylland (Denmark) built their rise on AI, then sold their model to Brentford.

- Even India’s ISL is adopting GPS tracking and machine learning-based fatigue prediction.

Football’s not just about vibes anymore. It’s code + coaching.

Let’s not forget: Pep brought in a “Data Advisory Committee” in 2019. Since then?
🏆 3 Premier Leagues
📉 Injury rates cut
📈 6.2 PPDA (Passes Per Defensive Action) — best pressing stat in Europe

But sure, "vibes" 😂

Okay, but did AI make you lose the FA cup final to Crystal Palace?

Lads, one thing we agree on: if your AI tells you to spend €100m on Antony, fire the algorithm.

Ahmed, you Arsenal lot are deluded. StatDNA? That’s ancient tech—Kroenke’s too cheap to upgrade it. We signed Ødegaard and Gabriel with it, sure, but City’s running laps around you with Second Spectrum’s live match tweaks. They made 12% more in-game switches than us last season—Opta stats don’t lie. Arteta’s out here coaching with a flip phone while Pep’s got a supercomputer. Wake up or stay 2nd forever. 😛

Sophia, cry more. Real Madrid doesn’t need your fancy tech to win. Our AI spotted Camavinga’s ball recovery stats at 18—Olocip’s the real deal. But Vini’s UCL final banger? That’s pure magic, not numbers. Arsenal’s data obsession won’t help you when Saka’s missing sitters. And Hiroshi, your 124 injury days mean nothing when you choke against Palace. Hala Madrid, you wannabes! 👑

Chelsea’s a data dumpster fire, but at least we’re trying, unlike United’s caveman approach. Brighton’s set-piece AI’s why they scored 15% of their goals from corners last season—Arsenal, take notes. Ahmed, your lot’s stuck in 2015. Even Bengaluru FC in India’s ISL is out here cutting injuries 20% with GPS trackers. Step up or shut up. 😏 And John, Maguire’s still haunting Old Trafford—sort that out before chatting.

Marco, Palace was a fluke, you mug. City’s DeepMind AI runs millions of game sims—why we forced Arsenal into 65% long balls in our 2-2 draw. Ahmed, your xG’s nice (+1.2 per game), but you’re lightyears behind Pep’s brain trust. Sophie’s right—Arteta’s got no clue how to use real-time data. Liverpool’s injury days hit 132 with DeepMind; you lot are probably still using Excel. Keep dreaming, Gooners. 🏆😉
