About Pravodha
Pravodha is a community-driven professional networking platform focused on elevating skills and expertise through demonstrable contributions to the community.
Problem
There are two major problems that we are trying to solve
- Finding meaningful content relevant to professional and personal interests.
- Credibility of users on professional networks - actual expertise vs appearance of expertise.
For online professional networking needs, users have limited options, none of which truly address these problems, in fact, they often add to them:
- credibility - endorsements are unreliable
-
finding meaningful content is challenging:
- Groups are non-functional with little to no engagement,
- Notifications are irrelevant with users notified of trivial things like comments of other users on irrelevant posts, unrelated page recommendations, birthdays, etc.,
- Newsfeed is filled with self-serving business content, irrelevant ads, clickbait content, engagement-harvesting posts, and plagiarized content.
Solution
Pravodha is a community-centered platform where users can find relevant and credible content that helps them upgrade and amplify their abilities and knowledge, and make meaningful connections in the process.
How it works:
- Your primary “feed” displays discussions from only the communities you have joined.
- On separate tabs, you can see discussions recommended based on topics of your interest, and popular discussions.
Why it works:
- You have control over your feed so you see no irrelevant content.
- No distractions - no ads in your feed, no images, no videos.
In essence, by actively participating and contributing in meaningful ways to a community, users can demonstrate their skills and knowledge, which in turn helps them to grow and be recognized for their expertise. This process not only benefits the individual but also enriches the community as a whole.
Credibility
Users build their credibility through contributions showcasing their knowledge that helps the community.
How it works:
Certain actions on the platform require “Repo points”, which can be earned in the following ways:
- Each like your discussion or comment receives, you get 1 point.
- Every time your discussion gets bookmarked, you get 1 point.
- When you create an account, you get 15 points to help you get started.
- Every 15 minutes spent on the platform gets you 2 points.
Here’s how you spend those points:
- Each like requires 1 point
- Each bookmark requires 1 point
- Creating a new community requires 10 points
The following activities do not require any points:
- Joining a community
- Starting a discussion
- Commenting on discussions
The points make the likes valuable because you can only spend what you earn.
Trust
The points a user accumulates through likes and bookmarks not only enhance their ability to engage in the community but also increase their reputation/trust.
The reputation of a user is seen in the expertise section of their profile. It displays the list of topics where the user’s contributions have been recognized. Next to each expertise, a tick mark will appear when other users like the contributions the user makes in those communities. The color of the tick mark shows the level of expertise:
- 1-4 likes: Grey
- 5-9 likes: Blue
- 10-19 likes: Green
- 20+ likes: Gold
